Fire Detection and Suppression Simulation

Exploitable results

Fire and water mist interaction and suppression models based on Computational Fluid Dynamics techniques have been developed as part of the FIREDASS project. These models were originally intended for application to aviation applications as part of the halon replacement initiative. However, the models have application to marine, rail and built environment scenarios. The current models can be used to simulate the action of a water misting system in a fire environment. The model has potential to be used to understand how a water misting system operates. Hence the model can be used to help determine the optimal positioning of a given system to combat a known fire threat or to help specify the parameters of the required optimal spray system.
