The European Science Foundation (ESF) is offering up to four awards for European research workshops in any field of the humanities. These workshops should be held during 1999 and would have a maximum of 20 participants. This workshop scheme has been designed to encourage researchers from across Europe to put forward innovative and creative ideas for European research. Applications are invited in any field of humanities research (for example archaeology, arts or classical studies). The Committee will pay particular attention, when evaluating proposals, to the added European value of the proposal and will particularly welcome initiatives that bridge both disciplinary and regional gaps. Priority will be given to proposals in the following areas: - Construction and transmission of knowledge and values; - Intercultural contacts; - Arts and literature; - The ethics of science; - Long-term ecological change; - Research infrastructures for the humanities.
