The final report of the project on Organizational Change, Evolution, Structuring and Awareness (ORCHESTRA) funded by the Commission's ESPRIT programme for Information Technologies, has recently been published. The aim of the ORCHESTRA project was to design and develop a new generation groupware system incorporating both advanced technical components and the organizational dimension of its users. The aim was to ensure increased organizational effectiveness through better management of information. The report is addressed to the European industrial and information technology community, and aims to provide a comprehensive perspective of the project's goals, activities, experience and results. This perspective is presented from both technical research and development, and marketing points of view. The report is divided into the following sections: - Rationale and basis of the ORCHESTRA project; - The technical definition of the results; - Structure of the project, depicting the various composite modules and their integration principles and techniques; - Technical information on components and prototypes; - Outline of the role, activities and lessons learned from the work at the pilot sites; - Marketing and exploitation; - Information, role and contributions from partners; - Dissemination of results and conclusions.
