IMO report on EC videotex market
An Information Market Observatory (IMO) working paper entitled "Overview of the EC videotex market, 1990-1991" sets out an analysis of trends in this sector: The total number of videotex terminals installed Community-wide by 1990 was over 6.6 million, with 15,000 information providers offering more than 28,000 services. Several national telecommunications operators have launched programmes aimed at mass dissemination of low cost terminal equipment. At the same time, access and billing facilities via premium rate access points have been developed or are planned. The IMO estimates the revenue brought in by EC service providers to be some ECU 340 million, of which 80% is attributable to France. However, in spite of the increase in interconnections, transEuropean videotex traffic remains modest.
