The European Commission, DG XIV, has published an invitation to tender relating to a study on Community perspectives on the cultivation of freshwater and marine resources, both plant and animal, for human consumption or use (aquaculture). The aim of the study will be to collect and analyse harmonized data between Member States, to enable: - The quantification and characterization of the socio-economic importance of the aquaculture sector in the EU; - The determination of trends and perspectives for the future of this sector, including reference to employment and income trends; - The analysis of the impact of aquaculture on the environment and on the EU's self-procurement activity in fisheries products; - The analysis of the impact of Community aid on aquaculture development. The study should be completed within seven months.
