Optimization of the Information Society in Europe
The Information Society Project Office (ISPO) of the European Commission, has recently published an implementation strategy for the "Optimization of the socio-economic benefits of the Information Society in Europe", a priority outlined in the recently launched multiannual Community programme to stimulate the establishment of the Information Society in Europe. In the framework of this multiannual programme, the Commission has decided to carry out a scheme encompassing two initiatives and a common coordination structure: - From regional awareness to transnational partnership: establishing EU-wide coordination and dissemination schemes, based on regional structures integrating SMEs from a particular sector at regional level; - The best use of information technology, a networking initiative for business executives in order to raise the awareness of industrial actors regarding the best integration of new technologies in business functions. These two initiatives will be coordinated through a common structure which will ensure a European dimension within each initiative, sound coordination between the two initiatives and a number of support activities. The report issued contains details of how these strategies will be put into operation, their aims and objectives and general guidelines and orientations.
