Within the framework of the specific programme of RTD in the field of human capital and mobility (1990-1994) the Commission has selected a group of projects which, together with a second group to be confirmed at the beginning of September, will be supported by 252 mobility fellowships for individual researchers plus 239 fellowships for laboratories or research teams, enabling these to select and receive over 470 researchers. More than 700 young researchers will benefit from these fellowships, enabling them to work for up to two years in the best European research establishments in a country other than their own. The human capital and mobility programme, an initiative without precedence in Europe, is one of the most extensive transnational schemes for young researchers. It aims to promote mobility mainly at post-doctoral level and thus contribute to the creation of a truly European scientific and technical community. Together with training via research opportunities, programme activities include the setting up of scientific and technical research cooperation networks, measures to promote access to large-scale scientific facilities, and the organization of "Euroconferences". In addition to the mobility fellowships awarded, 59 series of conferences have been approved, as well as research/mobility projects presented by 28 establishments with large-scale facilities. It is estimated that by the end of 1992 a total of more than 1000 establishments, and 4000 researchers, will be involved.
