New TEN-Telecom projects selected
Following the call for proposals issued in January 1998 (OJ No 10 of 15.1.1998 p.16) for projects under the Trans-European Telecommunications Network, the European Commission, DG XIII, has selected nine projects. These projects involve a total of 61 partners in nine Member States and will receive total funding of ECU 8.4 million. Examples of the projects selected include: - THEN: a project providing a feasibility study of a global tele-healthcare network, based on an integrated satellite-terrestrial communication network; - GALENOS: validation of a satellite communications network able to support a wide variety of services and applications including a billing service on a pay-per-use basis; - SANARIS: establishing the commercial viability of applications based on a new satellite communication system specifically designed for low-rate data applications; - REVENUES: assessing the technical and economic feasibility of the provision of virtual private network services; - ACTE SIS: market study for the use of cinema and television archives by professionals for audiovisual and multi-media in the EU, Central and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean.
