A total of 169 proposals were received in reply to a March 1991 call made under the VALUE programme (OJ No C 74 of 20.3.1991) concerning the dissemination of the results of Community-funded RTD activities. After evaluation by an independent committee of experts, 45 proposals were put forward for consideration by the Commission, of which 13 were taken up. In view of the available finance of approximately ECU 0.5 million, only comparatively small projects (for which the required finance was less than ECU 50,000) were considered. In June 1992 the 32 remaining proposals were further screened with a view to their resubmission for funding in implementation of the "Centralized Action" (VALUE II). This process lead to the selection of 22 proposals taking up the available second tranche appropriation of ECU 1.2 million. As a result of this second tranch of support, together with the funds already agreed for the 13 proposals in the first tranche, the Commission services consider that all the most promising proposals identified by the Evaluation Committee, particularly those distinguished by innovative methodology or by target audience, can now be supported, subject to the finalization of contract negotiations with the individual proposers. The call brought a strong response, in total representing a requested funding of ECU 15 million. A number of the proposals concern establishment of new information services or the upgrading of existing ones, and the publication of texts related to Community research. Other proposals include targeted dissemination activities, conference and information-day organization, audiovisual dissemination, and support for science and technology communicators.
