Second report from the Floods ERA-Net (CRUE) shows good practice examples on management of flood-related research across Europe

Berlin, Germany – A survey published today by CRUE ERA-Net gives a comprehensive summary of current practice in the development and management of flood research programmes in 11 European countries.

The good practice guide provides an overview of the various opportunities for programme development and organisation of flood-related research. It can be used as a tool-box for the development and implementation of future funding activities. The content, nature and implementation of flood-related research programmes in the European countries involved differ quite considerably since the programmes are constrained by country-related conditions, drivers and rules. Nevertheless the report identifies a number of similar practices in flood research management. In its conclusion, the report supports the development of future joint funding initiatives in flood research. Sebastian Catovsky, CRUE Co-ordinator, said: “The new EU Floods Directive and implementation of the EU Adaptation Green Paper will require closer co-operation between Member States on flood-related research. In this context joint funding initiatives, as recommended by this report, will help to avoid redundancies between the research activities in different countries and achieve cross-border solutions to the greatest extent possible. This survey is a valuable contribution towards a common European flood research agenda for the next 5 to 10 years, which CRUE is currently developing.”
