The European Commission has published an invitation to tender for a study relating to the establishment of an EU logistics database. In recent years, logistics and supply chain management have increasingly become the subject of public debate. Both industry and policy-makers require a comprehensive set of data on logistics to allow the measurement of efficiency and enhance planning. Currently, the activities of both groups are hindered by the absence of comparable and comprehensive data. The Commission has therefore decided to launch a study with a view to establishing a comprehensive data framework on logistics and supply chain management and to developing a methodological and organisational approach for the creation of a European database on logistics. The study should be completed within 14 months.
