In order to assess the potential for the exploitation of molecular genetic data for the identification of fish origin, the European Commission, DG XIV, has published an invitation to tender for a feasibility study.

The study will contain the following elements:

- Definition of a databank structure accessible through the Internet that can group all the different methodologies for genetic data identification of fish origin;
- Definition of the access structure to allow research and control authorities to access the databank and introduce data;
- Generation, analysis and creation of a prototype data structure for demonstration using DNA data for Mediterranean and Atlantic hake.

The contract will last for a period of 12 months.
