In the context of G24 assistance to countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former USSR (coordinated by the Commission), wide-ranging discussion of technical and organisational matters took place at the meeting of the G24 Working Group on Nuclear Safety in Brussels on 14-15 September 1992. An executive Steering Committee was set up and subsequently reached decisions on the following matters: - The creation of a technical working group to coordinate training assistance as a priority problem in the general area of improving operational safety; - the creation of a group on coordination of assistance to the nuclear power plant of Kozhodoy, Bulgaria, in order to bring about near-term technical improvements as well as improve aspects of operational safety; - examination by the Secretariat of ways and means to improve coordination mechanisms for the enhancement of regulatory regimes and technical and operational aspects of RBMK type reactors. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Brinkhorst (Director General, DG XI, CEC) and attended by delegations from the G24 countries plus delegations from the Central and Eastern European countries, Russia and Ukraine, together with representatives of international banking institutions and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
