Development of integrated systems for large-scale propagation of elite plants
A report has recently been published on the activities carried out during 1997 within the framework of a project on plant propagation, funded under the EU's programme for cooperation in scientific and technical research (COST 822). A total of 21 countries participate in the project, following the addition of Luxembourg and Poland during 1997. Updated contact details for all project participants are contained in the report. During 1997 two management meetings and a meeting of each of the five working groups within the project were held, involving invited speakers and experts from the USA and Europe. The reports of all these meetings are contained in the publication, as well as the reports of ten scientific missions. The topics addressed by the working group and management meetings are as follows: - Development of integrated systems for large scale propagation of elite plants using in vitro techniques; - Physiology and control of plant propagation in vitro; - Plant regeneration via suspension culture systems; - Identification and control of phase change in rejuvenation; - Molecular biology of differentiation and transformation; - Mechanisms and markers of regeneration and genetic stability.
