A newsletter has been launched for the Waste Water Cluster, which involves five European research projects funded by the EU's Environment and Climate research programme. The objective of the project is to improve the understanding of the transformation, fate and toxicity of selected groups of industrial pollutants discharged into water resources, by using complementary sampling and advanced measuring techniques. The expected results should provide better monitoring data for risk assessment of waste waters. The newsletter provides an overview of the aims and objectives, and progress made within each of the projects within the cluster, as well as giving a short overview of relevant publications for each project. The specific projects are as follows: - INExSPORT - Integrated immuno extraction sampling and portable biosensor prototype for infield monitoring; - OWWA - On-line field sampling and monitoring in combination with the automated determination of micropollutants in industrial waste water; - PRISTINE - Priority surfactants and their toxic metabolites in waste effluent discharges - an integrated study; - PRENDISENSOR - Prediction of potential leaching of endocrine disruptors from soils and run-off effluents; - SANDRINE - Biosensor tracing of endocrine disrupting compounds in surface water, waste water and sludge for water quality assessment.
