Geneva, February 27th 2009 - The partners of the Heterogeneous Technology Alliance (HTA), CEA, CSEM, Fraunhofer & VTT today announce the next step of the expansion of their joint initiative. To facilitate this expansion, a new company, 4-Labs, has been incorporated this month with the main mission of commercializing HTA technologies across Europe.

Through this new organization, HTA members aim at improving their understanding of the technology requirements of the European industry and to build the best solutions for satisfying these needs. This is the first time that major R&D organizations put their efforts together at such a scade for serving the European Industry. In the near term, the new company will mainly target business opportunities in the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. Attention will be paid as well to new member states of the European Community. 4-Labs is located in Geneva and will be initially driven by two senior members of the heterogeneous technology industry. André Perret, formerly Vice President Strategic Relations at CSEM will act as General Director of the new company and David Holden formerly International Business Development Director at CEA/Minatec will act as Business Development Director. 4-Labs has chosen Geneva as a base for coordinating joint research projects and developing innovative solutions for industry, using highly qualified professionals. This decision reinforces the position of the canton as an undisputable leader of Research and Development in Europe. Pierre-François Unger and the Geneva Economic Development Office have played a determining role in establishing the European Headquarters of 4-Labs in Geneva by facilitating procedures with the various administrative offices, as well as actively proposing the best solutions for this new company. “All of the conditions are now in place to welcome 4-Labs and its partners under the most favorable conditions in Geneva”, announced Daniel Loeffler, Director of the Geneva Economic Development Office.
