With the half-way mark in Austria's first Presidency of the EU now reached, the CORDIS Austrian Presidency R&D Information Service continues to provide the latest news on research and innovation activities relating to the Austrian Presidency, as well as details of activities in the telecoms and education fields. At Ministerial level the focus remains on the on-going process of adopting the Fifth RTD Framework Programme, and the site includes details of a meeting between Casper Einem, Austria's Minister for Science and Transport, and the European Parliament's Research Committee in September, where the main representatives of the two bodies who will adopt the Fifth Framework Programme were brought together. There are now over 20 case studies of successful EU-funded projects involving Austrian participants available on the site, with more to be added in the remaining two and a half months of the Presidency. Examples of projects about which full details may be found on the Web include: - a FAIR project to review energy crops; - a Telematics Applications project to divert lorries from city centres; - an ESPRIT project to make electronic controls in vehicles safer; - a BRITE/EURAM project to create a nanoscale plasma jet; - a Transport project to evaluate the Danube's role as a major transport artery; - an INCO project to develop water sustainability in the Jordan. The site also includes fortnightly issues of a newsletter published by the Austrian Ministry for Science and Transport, which provides a broad overview of Austrian research activities.
