Enhancing Europe's role in the global Information Society
A joint call for proposals concerning support actions on international dialogue and information exchange for the deployment of a global Information Society (IDEIS), has recently been launched by the European Commission, DG III and DG XIII. The proposals should focus on organising activities related to enhancing Europe's role and visibility within the global dimension of the Information Society through: - Supporting the dialogue between the EU and third countries; - Establishing mechanisms and channels for proper exchanges of information; - Organising a network that will engage in activities related to the global dimension of the Information Society. Proposals should involve partners from one or more geographical regions in the Mediterranean countries, Africa, Latin America, south-east Asia, China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Each network should cover one or more of the following activities: - Dialogue: supporting Information Society fora or equivalent mechanisms for dialogue with each of the third country regions, involving relevant bodies in the respective regions; - Information Society policies: Awareness of the preparation and implementation of action plans related to policies at national and regional levels in the third countries; - Transfer of experience and technical exchanges: Linking with open initiatives in the Information Society and dissemination of the results of relevant Community projects and diffusion of best practice; - Demonstration activities: To provide technical support to the preparation and presentation of proposals for projects in the field of the Information Society.
