Information on the activities of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements
New information sources on the activities of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre are now available. These include the Annual Report for 1997 and a redesigned Internet homepage. The mission of the Institute is to promote common European measurement systems in support of EU policies, with particular emphasis on the internal market, the environment and health and consumer protection standards. The main activities carried out by the Institute involve the development and performance of specific reference measurements, to produce certified reference materials, to organise international measurement evaluation programmes, to establish trans-national databases and to carry out pre-normative research. The main areas of research are on reference materials and chemical reference measurements, isotopic reference measurements, neutron data and radionuclide metrology.
