The European Commission, DG XI, has published an invitation to tender relating to managing waste products from mining, quarrying, and mineral treatment. The study will cover the 15 Member States of the European Union

The main objectives of the study are to:

- Evaluate the quantities of waste from mining, quarrying and from the treatment of minerals;
- Identify and analyse the disposal methods of this waste as well as the specific control measures in the use and closure phase of disposal sites;
- Make an inventory and an analysis of legislation and of the practices of waste management;
- Identify and analyse potential environmental problems involved in waste management;
- Identify and analyse national and Community measures likely to improve the waste management.

The contract will continue for nine months from the date of signature.
