Launch of 'Digital architecture history of the first half of the 20th century in Europe' on International Day of the Book
'Building the future on lessons of the past' was the results in brief chosen for the reintegration grant of the first author of this book. Now this book brings in published form the study trips during the reintegration grant, before the reintegration grant, and after the reintegration grant. These build an online database of photographs to which the pages in the books are linked. They are preceded by forms on selected architects, including biography, main works, references and visual material, and by some essays on the issue. Some of the forms took the shape of posters of Romanian architects creators of cultural heritage, a project run by the third author, who was also the PhD supervisor of the first author on the topic of the book. The essays include conference and book reviews on conservation related to the work of the second author, a former supervisor at the time of study in Karlsruhe, with whom the first author was brought together by the NeDiMAH (Network for Digital Methods in Arts and Humanities) cooperation, who also funded the book printing. The approach is however different, instead of travel of the German researcher across Europe, experts from whole Europe were invited to Karlsruhe to share their experience in conservation. This way two pillars are reached, 'documentation' of the Modern Movement and "conservation" of it, both included in the aims of the association DOCOMOMO. The book is available open access on ZENODO at https://zenodo.org/record/17160?ln=en(opens in new window) and an application have been made to include it in the ICOMOS Open Archive. The book launch was accompanied by an event of lectures of Alex Dill and of Pia Fricker, a former colleague from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, now at ETH Zürich, on digital landscape. The book and the programme are available at the page of the host university at http://www.uauim.ro/evenimente/digital-architecture/(opens in new window) and there is also an English translation of the text. The event took place on 23 April 2015, which was the International Day of the Book.
