Community Statistics
Eurostat, the European Commission, Directorate-General Statistical Office, has published a call for expression of interest to participate in a multiannual programme of studies, surveys and provision of services to be carried out in the field of Community statistics. The work will be concerned with a socio-economic analysis of statistical data available at the time or to be collected over the medium term, and data collection through surveys of targeted populations such as households, businesses, civil services. The implementation of this programme will comprise the following actions: - Development of classifications, methodologies and common definitions directly applicable in the Member States, supported by Community legislation; - Conducting of common statistical surveys on harmonised methodological bases; - Development and analysis of the Community's statistical results, including comparisons from country to country and region to region; - Distribution of statistical data (any combination of technologies) and associated activities such as: promotion, marketing, production and reproduction of final products to be distributed; - Promotion of the convergence of national statistical practices initially through common training actions; - Support for the development of the statistical systems of Community an non-Community countries initially through structural actions based on exchanges of technology and experience between Member States and with third countries. The statistical works this tender refers to are broken down into two categories, (A) and (B). Category (A) relates to economic-statistical studies, surveys and provision of services and will cover the following topics: - Methodologies; - Classifications and nomenclatures; - Registers and panels; - Economic accounts, balance sheets; - Application of statistical methods to the analysis of data; - Modern data-collection techniques and technologies; - Documentation and distribution of information and associated activities cited above; - Computer applications in the statistical field. Category (B) relates to statistical infrastructure and statistical training in the following fields: - Economics/statistics; - Management by total quality; - Project management; - Presentation and writing of statistical documents; - Training of instructors. This category is further subdivided into 52 areas which are listed in the Official Journal of the European Commission.
