Conference the Aquatic Ecosystem Puzzle: Threats, opportunities & adaptation in Siena - Italy
Explore with us the application of ecosystem-based science and sustainable management of aquatic resources. Leading scientists from around the globe will be present, with keynote speakers such as Lars Tranvik, Ruben Sommaruga, Martin Kernan, Goren Dave, Martin van der Knaap, Jos Brils and others. Researchers, managers, students and the public are encouraged to attend and share their piece of the puzzle! The conference will be held from 13-15 June, 2011 in the historic centre of Siena, in the heart of Tuscany. The Conference welcomes contributions either as oral presentations or as posters from natural and socio-economic sciences as well as case studies and policy papers relating to aquatic ecosystems. Abstracts must be submitted by e-mail to the conference secretariat (lisa.elder@dfo-mpo.gc.ca) by March 1, 2011 in relation to the following themes: _ Adapting to climate change in aquatic ecosystems: European & global perspectives _ Health and biodiversity in aquatic ecosystems: bottom up and top down strategies _ Integrating ecology, toxicology and management: Can laboratory and field approaches meet? _ Aquatic carbon dynamics: local processes with global implications. _ European Union Water Framework Directive: science, policy and challenges _ Tools, toys and techniques in aquatic science for the 21st century The publication of selected manuscripts from the conference will be made, subject to peer review, in the ISI rated journal: Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Management and/or in the Ecovision World Monograph Series depending on the quality and suitability of the manuscripts.
