Pilot study reports on transverse flux induction heating for heating strip gauge steels
Transverse flux induction heating has the potential to be used on a large-scale for annealing strip gauge steel products, according to a report recently published by the European Commission, Directorate General XII. The report, "Demonstration of pilot transverse flux heating continuous annealing line" is one in a series of project reports, recently published by the Commission, which focus on pilot and demonstration projects in technical steel research Continuous annealing is used for strip gauge steels to improve the consistency of the steels' mechanical properties, and to produce a better shape and surface cleanliness. This project aimed to build and operate a pilot scale continuous annealing line based on transverse flux induction heating to explore the range of strip grades that could be processed. The researchers also hoped that they would be able to demonstrate that the concept would be capable of being applied on a full production scale for the continuous annealing of wide steel strip.
