EU-China FIRE announces exciting final outcomes supporting EU-China cooperation on FIRE and IPv6

The EU-China FIRE FP7 funded project, ending on July 31, 2015 is proud to announce major final outcomes. Over the course of the past two years, the EU-China FIRE project has successfully contributed to strengthening EU-China collaboration on Future Internet Research and Experimentation (FIRE) and IPv6, providing academics and industrials from both regions with the opportunity to explore mutual cooperation opportunities and to join research efforts in the field.

These accomplishments include:

•An online collaborative platform helping EU and Chinese organisations network together and discuss FIRE cooperation
•An online support desk for EU and Chinese researchers and industries looking for background information in the area of FIRE, or for support in establishing contacts in this field
•9 articles on EU-China Future Internet cooperation sent by experts from both Europe and China in response to the project call for articles
•Two conferences supporting EU-China cooperation on IPv6 and Future Internet test beds and strengthening collaboration on Autonomic Future Internet (AFI) standardisation
•Two webinars imparting knowledge on Public packet Telecom Data Network (PTDN) and AFI while promoting standardisation
•Two workshops discussing AFI standardisation and SDN, NFV & IPv6 impacts as well as EU-China test beds federation, including a Fed4FIRE tutorial on how to use worldwide federation techniques
•Improvement of interoperability between Europe and China thanks to successful interoperability events in IPv6 and SDN organised or supported by the project
•A successful EU-China IPv6 pilot set up between partners sites in Beijing (BII and BUPT) and Paris (Mandat International and France Telecom/Orange)
•Increased awareness on test beds federation techniques preparing the ground for worldwide federation between GENI (U.S.A.) Fed4FIRE (Europe) and CENI (China)
•Promotion of important standards for AFI and cooperation in standardisation mainly with active dialogues between ETSI NTECH and CCSA (China Communication Standardisation institute)
•The creation of an ETSI industry specification group to promote IPv6 and its impact on IoT, Cloud Computing, SDN-NFV and 5G
•Important contribution to specification regarding Fed4FIRE architecture implementation
•The launch of the IPv6 education programme in Europe and China introducing IPv6 educational best practices in curriculum and course definitions, and stimulating the uptake of IPv6 deployment in the education sector
•An e-book on IPv6 best practices written by core experts in the field
•A virtual community of stakeholders supporting EU-China cooperation on FIRE on LinkedIn, Twitter and Weibo
