Employment and competitiveness are the two key areas on which the European Information Society has a major impact, according to a new report from the FAIR project, under DG XIII's ACTS Programme. Entitled "Constructing the European Information Society 1998", it comprises a series of executive summaries, based on recent research results from 50 working papers. These papers provide analyses of developments that are affecting how people live and work and of trends in ICT markets and the socio-economic environment. The report covers two key impact areas: - Employment: Potential for positive multiplier effects and new job creation; - Competitiveness: E-commerce, development mechanisms and economic impact.
