Twenty projects are on the shortlist for support after evaluation of the proposals received under the call for pilot projects under the INFO2000 programme, which is aiming to stimulate the development of the European multimedia content industry. On 16 December 1997, the European Commission published a call for proposals, inviting pilot projects on a cost-shared basis under the INFO2000 programme. The call was made because, throughout the European Member States, vast amounts of information are being held at different levels of public sector and under different rules for access. The objective of the pilot projects would be to make more readily available the information resources held by the public sector for exploitation in European multimedia-content services. 141 projects were received and 20 of them were shortlisted.
