Call for proposals for workshops and symposia
The Brocher Foundation offers to researchers the opportunity to organize a one and a half day multidisciplinary symposium or a two, three or four day multidisciplinary workshop on the ethical, legal and social implications on humankind of recent medical research and new medical technologies. These symposia and workshops are an occasion to take advantage of a uniquely located Conference room on the shores of Lake Geneva and to invite experts from the numerous international organizations and non-governmental organizations based in the area (WHO, UNAIDS, WIPO, WTO, ILO, WMA, ICRC, MSF, etc) THE BROCHER SYMPOSIA The Brocher Foundation is inviting junior and senior researchers to submit proposals for a 1.5 day multidisciplinary symposium project on the ethical, legal and social implications of new medical developments. The Brocher Foundation will host the event between February and May or between July and October 2013. The fully equipped Brocher Centre Conference room – situated in Hermance, 15 kilometers from Geneva, Switzerland — can host up to 60 participants in an exceptional location on the shores of Lake Geneva. The Brocher Foundation will host the event and cover: - Accommodation for a maximum of 12 speakers - Grant of 8’000 Swiss francs for travel expenses - Grant of 600 Swiss francs for a dinner the eve of the symposium - Lunches, coffee breaks, one official dinner for a maximum of 52 participants (including speakers). - Possible support for a publication issued from the symposium upon agreement with the Foundation. The Brocher Foundation will arrange all the logistics according to its standard, except the reimbursements of speakers which are under the responsibility of the applicants. THE BROCHER WORKSHOPS The Brocher Foundation is inviting junior and senior researchers to submit proposals for a 2 to 4 day multidisciplinary workshop project on the ethical, legal and social implications of new medical developments. The Brocher Foundation will host the event between 3 June and 28 June 2013 or between 4 November 2013 and 31 January 2014 at the Brocher Centre and will cover: - Accommodation for a maximum of 12 participants at the Brocher Foundation - Grant of 8’000 Swiss francs for travel expenses - Lunches, coffee breaks and dinners for a maximum of 30 participants - Possible support for a publication issued from the symposium upon agreement with the Foundation. The Brocher Foundation will organize all the logistics according to its standards, except the reimbursements of speakers which are under the responsibility of the applicants. TOPICS FOR THE YEAR 2013 Ethical, Legal & Social Implications of recent medical research and new medical technologies: Among the following disciplines Bioethics, Medical Anthropology, Health Economics, Health Policy, Health Law, Philosophy of Medicine and Health, Medical Humanities, Social Science perspectives on Health, Medical Ethics, History of medicine. Proposals of the following topics are notably welcomed Equitable access to medical care, Biobanks, Biosecurity and Dual Use Dilemmas, Clinical Trials and Research on Human Subjects, Genetic testing and screening, Health Care Reform, Nanotechnology, Neglected diseases, Pandemic planning, Reproductive technology, Stem Cells and Cell Therapy, Organ transplantation.
