The Car of the Future: A Merger of Electric, Assisted and Connected Driving
Information and communication technologies, smart components and systems have been essential for a multitude of recent innovations in the automobile, and are expected to be key for tackling the challenges ahead, both inside the vehicle and at its interfaces for the exchange of data and power with the outside world. The results of most recent industrial and academic research and development on smart systems for the car of the future will be summarized in the conference book and the agenda of the 16th International Forum on Advanced Microsystems for Automotive Applications (AMAA 2012) on 30 and 31 May 2012 in Berlin, Germany. Speakers at the AMAA 2012 will address three major innovations paths: electric propulsion and the role of electronics (Patrick Bastard, Vice President Renault), wireless charging (Eric Giler, CEO WiTricity), and the challenges of automated driving (Reiner Hoeger, Director Continental). Furthermore, the related funding programmes at European level will be presented (Khalil Rouhana, Director European Commission). The conference programme comprises more than 40 talks and posters by leading engineers and renowned researchers dealing with electric vehicles, safety and driver assistance, simulation and testing, in-vehicle networks and architectures, cooperative driving and navigation as well as with the enabling components and systems. A special session will be held on the results of the Mini-Faros projects which aims at the development of a low- cost miniature laser scanner, and an update will be given on the funding opportunities and current projects of the European Green Cars Initiative. The conference programme can be found at www.amaa.de/agenda. The most excellent papers have been selected by the members of an international steering committee for publication in the conference book which is edited by AMAA chairman Gereon Meyer and will be published worldwide by Springer the day before the conference.
