Sustainable urban development awaits go ahead for action
To provide more support to European cities in solving problems related to unemployment, traffic and the environment, a Framework for Action dedicated sustainable urban development is awaiting discussion by the Regional Committee of the European Parliament on 22 April 1999. The European Commission has just published the report (COM/98/605 F), which details the four aspects of the Framework of Action, as follows: - Strengthening economic prosperity and employment in towns and cities; - Promoting equality, social inclusion and regeneration in urban areas; - Protecting and improving the urban environment: towards local and global sustainability; - Contributing to good urban governance and local empowerment.
