By making it possible to build information systems in different languages, EUROWORDNET is contributing towards the enlargement of the European market for electronic commerce. This project has developed a multilingual database with semantic relations between word meanings, or "wordnets", for eight European languages. The diversity of languages in Europe makes it important to have available generic language resources with modules integrated across different languages. EUROWORDNET was established under the European Commission's ESPRIT programme with the objective of developing a multilingual database. Among user groups are publishers, research institutes and R&D departments of universities and companies working in the field of knowledge engineering or linguistic databases.
