To highlight the work being carried out and the benefits from the JOULE programme, the research component of the nuclear energy programme of the European Commission (EC), Directorate-General XII for Science, Research and Development has published a booklet of 20 examples of JOULE projects. JOULE plays a critical role in the development of innovative and efficient energy technologies, including renewables. The examples particularly identify the benefits that both the European citizen and industry could draw from collaborative research undertaken at the level of the European Union (EU). The showcased projects are drawn from various fields in the non-nuclear energy sector, including the environment, energy, agriculture and food, transport, industrial processes, and new products and materials.
