The European Commission, Directorate-General III/B/6, has published a prior information notice for forthcoming work in the field of European telematics networks and systems IDA (interchange of data between administrations); standardization and public procurement.

The following opportunities will shortly be available:

- Testa II - Provision of access points for a European Internet Protocol (IP) backbone network (20 million euro will be available for this over 5 years);
- Testa II - Provision of network links to European IP backbone network (20 million euro will be available for this over 5 years);
- Translation centre IATE (inter-agency terminology exchange) project - Design and implementation of a terminology database to enable electronic interchange and shared management of terminology data between the translation centre, its partners and freelance translators (1.5 million euro will be available for this over 2 years). - Flosys project - Design and implementation of extended workflow, document and data dissemination facilities related to the translation process between the translation centre and its various partners (1.5 million euro will be available for this over 5 years);
- Teresa project - General information infrastructure for public access to environmental information, in order to reduce the reporting version imposed on Member States by reusing the information held by European and national administrations. The work will build on the technical infrastructure of the Eionet telematics network (1 million euro will be available for this work).
- Video conferencing services (1 million euro);
- E-mail support for committees and groups (900,000 euro);
- Extranet technology for document exchange and associated support (700,000 euro);
- Extension of EMCDDA information network (270,000 euro);
- Maintenance of directory service (186,000 euro);
- IDA2 - Interim programme evaluation (i): (100,000 euro).

The estimated date for initiation of the awards procedure is the second half of 1999.
