Two EU funded Succeed project partners winners of Stanford SPIRL

Two Succeed partners (Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes and Bibliothèque Nationale de France) have been awarded with the Stanford Prize for Innovation in Research Libraries (SPIRL).

Two Succeed partners (Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes and Bibliothèque Nationale de France) have been awarded with the Stanford Prize for Innovation in Research Libraries (SPIRL). The winners were chosen from 24 world wide libraries (the full list of participants is in the following link http://library.stanford.edu/projects/stanford-prize-innovation-research-libraries-spirl/2013-spirl-entries(s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)). The aim of SPIRL is "to recognize and celebrate innovation through programs, projects, and/or new or improved services that directly or indirectly benefit readers and users. The goal of this prize is to single out for community attention and to celebrate functionally significant results of the innovative impulses in libraries anywhere in the world that support research." Dame Lynne Brindley (Chair, Former Chief Executive Officer, The British Library) points regarding the Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes: "This is simply an inspirational model for us all." (See the full judges' comments at http://library.stanford.edu/projects/stanford-prize-innovation-research-libraries-spirl/biblioteca-virtual-miguel-de-cervantes(s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)) Richard E. Luce (Associate Vice-President, Professor, and Dean of Libraries, University of Oklahoma) says that the Biblothèque Nationale de France is "a wonderful and inspiring example of how to transform a great national library to expand its relevance as national and international cultural treasure in the digital age." (See the full judges' comments at http://library.stanford.edu/projects/stanford-prize-innovation-research-libraries-spirl/bibliotheque-nationale-de-france-judges(s’ouvre dans une nouvelle fenêtre)) In this first edition of SPIRL two commendations of merit were also given to Griffith University and New York Public Library. This prize highlights the great work Europe is making to disgitise its vast and rich cultural heritage, to which the Impact Centre of Competence (www.digitisation.eu) supported by the European Union under FP7-ICT through Succeed project (www.succeed-project.eu) contributes by making the digitisation faster, better and cheaper.
