European Design Competition offers prizes for bright sparks
Designers, students and luminaire manufacturers could find themselves the lucky winner of a cash prize or European-wide marketing and promotion campaign if they participate in a competition being promoted by the European Commission, Directorate general XVII. The European design competition for CFL (compact fluorescence) dedicated lighting fixtures has now been announced. The aim of the competition is to encourage and promote innovative and decorative designs of CFL dedicated lighting fixtures for the residential market. The competition will cover five product categories designed around modern pin-based fluorescent light bulbs. The European Commission is promoting the competition as part of its efforts to reduce energy consumption from lighting throughout Europe. The competition will be in two phases, linking its launch at the Hannover fair 1999 and its awards Ceremony at the Euroluce fair 2000. Entry to the competition is free, and the deadline for registration is 30 July 1999.
