p-medicine: 2nd Summer School in Computational Oncology in Wadern, Germany
The first summer school took place in Heraklion, Crete on June 13-18, 2011 and was organised by the p-medicine partner FORTH. It marked the beginning of a whole series of workshops in the field of computational oncology. This year's summer school takes place at Schloss Dagstuhl in Wadern, Germany on June 23-28, 2013 and is hosted by the EU project p-medicine. "p-medicine - from data sharing and integration via VPH models to personalised medicine" is a 4-year collaborative project funded under the 7th Framework Programme. The coordinator of p-medicine, Dr Norbert Graf, is an internationally acknowledged pioneer in the field of personalised medicine and has invited renowned experts as speakers for the summer school. They will cover a wide range of multidisciplinary topics in the field of computational and in silico oncology. They will thus impart the knowledge and skills required to understand the basics of multiscale cancer modeling and biomedical informatics framework. These are needed to bring computational and in silico oncology closer to the decision making process and clinical setting. The latter is crucial for achieving the ultimate goal of personalised medicine: to place patients into the centre of interest of medicine and offer tailor-made therapies for as many people as possible. The summer school is one step into this direction. p-medicine is very well embedded in the VPH and computational oncology community with several project partners in other projects, such as CHIC, Eureca, Integrate or VPH-Share. Members of these consortia are also very welcome to participate in the first p-medicine summer school.
