After a Decision taken by the Association Council on 31 May 1999, Estonia is now the first of the candidate countries from Central and Eastern Europe to become fully associated with the European Commission's Fifth RTD Framework Programme (FP5). The Decision entered into force on 1 June 1999. The formal association of the remaining nine countries from Central and Eastern Europe should follow in the coming weeks.
