Commission deals with health risks related to unemployment
The European Commission, Directorate General V, has announced an open call for tenders for a study to identify new strategies to deal with the health risks related to unemployment. According to DG V, employment and health policies are of significant public concern and there is direct correlation between the incidence of unemployment and mortality and suicide rates. This, says the Commission, is a result of reduced financial access to health care because of its expense, psychophysical reactions to stress and loss, and less thorough and frequent maintenance of manufacturing plants, for example. DG V is therefore commissioning this study to examine the links between work and unemployment and physical and mental well-being in the current situation. The study will cover: - Definition of the methodology; - Collection and analysis of the data; - Convocation of an expert group; - Conclusions.
