The European Commission's Open Information Interchange (OII) service has published its activity report for May on its pages on the INFO2000 website. The report includes W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and the European Electronic Signature Standardisation Initiative. The objective of the OII service is to provide all interested parties - including standards and specification developers, product and service providers, and end-users of these products and services - with an overview of existing and emerging designs to facilitate the exchange of information in electronic form. Each month the OII service publishes an activity report and the May 1999 issue contains information related to XML schemas and Web content accessibility guidelines. Additionally the report includes information on the European Electronic Signature Standardisation Initiative (EESSI), launched to study what standards should be used to implement the European Commission's proposed directive on the development of a common framework for electronic signatures. The May issue also reports on the Privacy for Privacy Preferences (P3P) specification, the "indecs" metadata model, published by the EU project of the same name, and the current thinking on digital object identifiers.
