ESA launches eclipse website
On 22 June 1999, to coincide with the summer solstice, the European Space Agency (ESA) launched a website dedicated to the final total eclipse of the sun this millennium. A total eclipse of the sun is predicted on 11 August 1999 and in anticipation of a great demand for information about this major event in the solar calendar, the European Space Agency (ESA) is launching Eclipse99, a website dedicated to explaining eclipses, which may be found at: http://sci.esa.int/eclipse99(opens in new window) Eclipse99 includes graphics, text and videos about eclipses. The information is drawn from ESA's extensive knowledge gathered from the Ulysses and SOHO solar spacecraft missions and the four Cluster II satellites. In addition to the website, which is hosted on ESA's scientific Web service, ESA has set up the Eclipse99 International Science Committee, which is coordinating eclipse related activities across Europe.
