Cost savings and long-term reduction of pipe leaks and breaks possible through new inspection technology

A new inspection methodology called BIT (Breivoll Inspection Technologies) PipeScanner from Norway was applied in the TRUST project.

The inspection method produces exact measurements of thickness and corrosion on metallic water mains. Pipe features such as valves, joints, and intersections are also mapped with high precision. This leads to the possibility of significant cost savings, as well as long-term reduction of leaks and breaks. TRUST now released a report that evaluates the BIT method for condition assessment of water pipes, presents the inspection system and analyses the applicability of the BIT methodology.
