The total cost of labour in Europe (per hour) rose by 2.2 % in nominal terms in the first quarter of 1999 compared to the same period a year earlier, reports the European Communities' statistical office, EUROSTAT.
Among countries for which data are available, the United Kingdom (5.2%) and Denmark (4.8%) registered the biggest rises and Germany the smallest (at 1.7%).
