New ECSC projects will affect protection of workers, consumers and the environment
Ninety new projects and accompanying measures aimed at disseminating project results and strengthening contacts between researchers and steel users are to be funded from a 56 million euro investment of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) by the European Commission. The projects are all intended to have a direct effect on the protection of workers, consumers and the environment. Early ECSC projects were pitched towards creating a European spirit of cooperation by stimulating the dissemination of results and cooperation, helping to transform research results quickly into industrial applications. Now, however, although the development of new processes and their improvement still represents a major area for research, projects focus increasingly on developing new applications for iron and steel products. The Commission will publish the full list of projects to benefit from this funding in September.
