The European Commission wants to know more about small businesses, so it can implement measures to help promote the entrepreneurial spirit and support sectors where assistance is most needed. DG XXIII is therefore inviting tenders to develop a methodology for the collection and pooling of statistical data concerning small enterprises. This will particularly aim to:

- Identify craft activities in data bases which are in existence and available at EU level;
- Propose the pooling of relevant activities enabling valid comparisons to be made between Member States and the economic role of the sector to be quantified.
