Protecting Europe's forests from atmospheric pollution
The European Commission has now published its detailed rules for the implementation of the Council Regulation for the protection of the EU's forests against atmospheric pollution. The European Union has a history of funding work in this area and has a network of monitoring sites spread right across Europe that report the findings of their observations and experimental work back to the European Commission to assist in the policy-making process. The measures provided for under the regulation shall be implemented under programmes to be drawn up each year by the Member States. These national programmes must cover all the applications for assistance supported by the legislation.
