European information systems will be more secure thanks to CIPHER

The CIPHER project has come about to conduct an in-depth analysis of the reality of information system security in Europe.

The partners in the CIPHER project have developed a first draft of the Cybersecurity Framework which has been evaluated at the Cipher International Workshop being run by Tecnalia. The workshop was attended by 20 experts from 10 countries and from various fields of Cybersecurity and defence: experts in security engineering, experts in European regulations on data protection, experts in critical infrastructure protection, etc. The countries represented were the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Belgium, Hungary, Norway and Spain, among others, and featured the participation of organisations like Europol, Symantec, Cyberdefcon, UNICRI, the Spanish Ministry of Defence, and the Centre for Industrial Cybersecurity. The CIPHER project has come about to conduct an in-depth analysis of the reality of information system security in Europe, and subsequently develop a methodological framework containing recommendations to prevent cybercrime and to react in the event of cyber-attacks. CIPHER is addressing this challenge not only with its attention focussing on the technological aspects of the actual systems that handle personal information, but also on the social concerns and ethics related to information systems as well as on the policies and regulations affecting the matter nationally. The Framework is a set of guidelines and recommendations to improve Cybersecurity in systems that store or process the personal information of users. It is available on the CIPHER website.
