Telecommunications: ONP reference list of standards
In accordance with Council Directive 90/387/EEC, the Commission publishes on a regular basis a list of standards suitable for open network provision (ONP). It is noted that the list, which follows that published on 29.12.1993 is indicative only, as certain standards published pursuant to the ONP Directive have to fulfil specific conditions and as yet no standards are available which fulfil all those required. Nevertheless publication of the list fulfils three needs: - It identifies the standards to be used in implementation of the ONP, ISDN and ONP packet switched data services recommendations, and the ONP leased line Directive; - It provides guidance as to the specifications which will be used as the basis for future European standards with regard to the ONP Directive; - It provides a stable format for future publication of standards. Included are explanatory notes on the status of listed standards, the structure of the reference list of standards, technical specifications, and standards using "the three stage methodology".
