Waste containers for radioactive waste are required by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, and are the subject of a restricted invitation to tender. Various types of container are required to enable the management of solid and liquid radioactive wastes on the Ispra site in Italy. The waste containers will be metal drums, metal containers and concrete containers. They will be used for collecting and storing solid and liquid unconditioned wastes, compacting solid wastes that can be compressed, preparing conditioned waste packages, temporarily storing packaged wastes in an interim store, and permanently storing packaged wastes in a final repository. The containers must be designed, fabricated, and tested in accordance with a quality-assurance programme complying with ISO 9000 or an equivalent standard and certified by a competent national or international body. The Commission will prepare a shortlist of potential contractors from the expressions of interest received and will invite those meeting the requirements to submit full tenders.
