ISIS researchers win the 1999 Innovative Metrology Prize
Researchers from the Joint Research Centre's (JRC) Institute for Systems, Informatics and Safety (ISIS) have recently won the 'Innovative metrology prize' in the 1999 world class manufacturing awards. Their winning invention 'digital moiré subtraction' (DMS) allows high quality optical and engineering interferometers to be built using low cost, low quality optical components. 'Apart from a considerable cost saving, this approach broadens the range of possible interferometers to include very large aperture and space saving non-symmetric systems', says the JRC. This award-winning research is highlighted in the latest issue of 'Techno Flash', a recently launched newsletter from the JRC.
