Environmental policy in the newly independent states
The Environment Directorate-General is calling for tenders for a study aimed to enhance the implementation and enforcement of harmonised environmental policy in the Newly Independent States (NIS). This should cover the development of pilot projects, policy guidance and support to governments and non-governmental organisations in the NIS. It covers environmental policy in the countries of the former Soviet Union from the perspective of approximations outlined in the Partnership and the Cooperation Agreements which have been signed by most of the NIS. It includes links to harmonisation of the environmental acquis, implementation of legislation, funding mechanisms for environmental management and improvement, the state of the environment and environmental reporting and awareness raising among stakeholders.
